You're still able to enact manual syncing of the last page read on a Kindle device by selecting the menu and choosing Sync to Furthest Page Read. Simply head to your Amazon account on the web, visit the Manage Your Kindle page, select Manage Your Device and turn off Whispersync Device Synchronization. If for some reason you wish to disable Whispersync, it's easy to perform a halt on the feature. If that doesn't help, please update software on your Kindle using procedure below: Mac computer with OSX 10.5 or above - You will need to install Android File Transfer, a free application, to complete the USB transfer.
